Shane

A martial arts school owner who was already in shape — and got into the best shape of his life coming back from surgery.

Where he started

Shane owns a martial arts school. He trains and teaches at high intensity for several hours a day, and he'd been lifting weights for years on his own. He was never out of shape — that's exactly what made his situation frustrating. He was putting in the work and not getting the results he wanted from it.

A month before he started coaching, he had a major injury that required surgery. The downtime that followed cost him upper body mass he'd spent years building.

"I'd been lifting weights for several years without the results I've always desired."

What changed

The first thing was the programming itself. In Shane's words, Vin had him doing more sets than he'd ever done in a workout — but not random ones. Several of the lifts were movements Shane had never performed before, and that turned out to be one of the reasons the results had never come.

"He had me doing the lifts that my body really needed in order to gain strength."

Nutrition ran the same way. Shane didn't give up any of the foods he enjoys. He had a calorie target and macros to hit each day, and those numbers moved week to week as his body responded, so progress never stalled out on a plan that had stopped fitting him.

The surgery recovery got handled in real time. Vin stayed on top of what Shane could and couldn't do while he healed, and adjusted the programming as his body came back rather than waiting for him to be fully recovered before doing anything.

Where he finished

Shane came out of the program in better shape than he'd ever been in — and as he points out himself, he always stays in shape, so that means something. His goal was lean mass, and he got it: several inches around his chest, size on his biceps and legs, waist down, and a few pounds on the scale, which for someone in his position is a genuine win.

"Vin is very accessible with communication and always available for help. He doesn't leave you alone. He's your coach and he takes it serious!"

Why it worked

Shane is the client most programs have nothing to offer. He's disciplined, he's already training hard, and he doesn't need to be talked into showing up. What he needed was someone to look at what he was actually doing, find the gaps, and build around them — including around an injury that would have stopped most people's progress cold.

"I highly recommend training with Vin. Make the investment in yourself. It will be worth it."
